The Marshall University Office of Intercultural Affairs received a check in the amount of $10,000 from the Jeannine Y. Francis Charitable Foundation Trust Sept. 20 in the Brad D. Smith Foundation Hall on the university’s Huntington campus.

These funds will support student travel expenses for future educational outings, according to Maurice Cooley, associate vice president of intercultural affairs.

“The Marshall University Office of Intercultural Affairs has created a multicultural student travel experience to one of the greatest cities in the world,” Cooley said. “In November 2018, students can travel to New York City, amid Gotham iconic landmarks, corporate towers, skyscrapers and museums. This voyage will entail an in-depth and carefully designed educational exposure to the arts, urbanization, global corporate entities, cosmopolitan life and more. Such exposure will significantly inspire many of our students to reach for the upper limits of career and personal success. We are overjoyed by the heartfelt generosity of the Jeannine Y. Francis Charitable Foundation Trust, which shares our values of education and expanding opportunities for lifelong success for minority students.”

Cooley said a series of educational tracks will be offered daily over a three-day period. In past years, students have traveled to the United Nations, the Museum of Modern Art, the 911 Memorial and Museum, the stock market/Wall Street, the Studio Museum of Harlem, the International Center of Photography, the fabric and fashion industry, Thurgood Marshall High School in Harlem and more.
