This chapter is composed of local business owners, teachers, counselors and other die-hard Marshall fans who desire to make a difference in the lives of students from southern West Virginia, according to Larry Canterbury, president of the chapter.
“We hope the next generation forge their own paths just as we all did, and hopefully will want to give back similarly in the future. We would also hope they will want to return to the areas they’re from after graduation with the desire to develop and improve their hometowns. We want to help students in the southern part of the state, specifically students from Raleigh, Fayette, Summers, Wyoming and Greenbrier counties obtain a great education,” Canterbury said.
The Marshall University Southern Coalfields Alumni and Big Green Chapter has a total of 20 members. They have been an actively fundraising Big Green chapter since 1990 and have been a joint Big Green and alumni chapter since November of 2017. They contribute annually to the Big Green General Scholarship Fund.
