The Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP), a specialized accrediting body recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), has granted accreditation through October 2025 to the Department of Counselor Education at Marshall University for the following programs Clinical Mental Health Counseling (M.A. degree) and School Counseling (M.A. degree) specialty areas offered at the Huntington and South Charleston, West Virginia campuses, as well as via online delivery.
Earlier this year, the counseling program had submitted an interim report to extend the program’s CACREP accreditation, which was confirmed last week.
“In the past year, we have seen the need for both mental health and school counselors to be on the rise,” said Dr. Teresa Eagle, dean of the College of Education and Professional Development, in which the counseling programs are housed academically. “Marshall is doing its part to fulfill those needs.”
