The institute, which is located on Marshall’s Huntington campus, is open to any student in need of additional help with English proficiency, both in person and online, regardless of whether they are enrolled in the ELI program.
The institute originated from a former Marshall partnership with INTO from 2013-2020 and is still in East Hall.
Kae Bradley, director of the English Language Institute, notes that while INTO took care of a lot of services for students in house, the ELI is helping students do things for themselves, which in turn, helps them feel more integrated into the surrounding campus.
“Now, it’s the perception that even more students belong here and are welcome in our community,” said Bradley. “We’re looking forward to having more international students and we always welcome them.”
The institute’s Learning Resource Center assists with both written and verbal assignments. Students interested in making an appointment can do so by visiting www.marshall.edu/eli.
Bradley says the institute is hosting an open house to make sure others know they are there to help and to meet anyone interested in learning more about the program. Faculty will also be on hand to discuss how they prepare students for their study path.
“I think we have done a good job in our long history here,” said Bradley. “We have adopted different names over the years, but our work is building on the work we have done for a long time.”
The open house will be held on Wednesday, March 30, from noon to 2 p.m. in East Hall, room 125. Light refreshments will be provided. Media are invited and encouraged to attend.
