College of Liberal Arts to host Research and Creativity Conference

Scholars from the Marshall University College of Liberal Arts will gather Thursday, April 7, and Friday April 8, to present their research. The two-day conference will take place in Drinko Library as students from across the college present display posters and host panel discussions.

The conference gets underway April 7 at 8:30 a.m. in Drinko Library and runs throughout the day. Day 2 on April 8 begins at 8:30 a.m. in Drinko Library once again, running through 3:15 p.m..

Panel topics will include:

  • Disaster and Recovery in West Virginia
  • Race and Racism
  • Language and Culture
  • Sex and Gender
  • Health Crisis and Care
  • People and Places in Geography
  • Intercultural Perspectives in an International World
  • Digital Life in a Digital World
  • New Applications for Geographic Methods
  • The Art of Creative Nonfiction: A Panel Discussion
  • The Social Determinants of Health: A Panel Discussion
  • The Thundering Word: Selected Performances
  • The Politics of Entertainment

“This year, the COLA Conference features work from undergraduate and graduate students, and for the first time, work from the Thundering Word speech and debate team,” Dr. Stephen Underhill, a professor of communication studies, said. “They have pulled together capstone research as well as projects still under development. I am excited for the opportunity to put them in discussion with each other, with faculty and with the community.”

The mission of the annual conference to showcase the analytic and creative skills that students in the College of Liberal Arts develop during their time at Marshall.
