Marshall University’s Department of Theatre and Dance has announced its 2024-25 production schedule. The two main shows for the fall semester include “A Doll’s House” and “Every Christmas Story Ever Told (And Then Some!).” Shows planned for the spring semester are “Sylvia” and “The SpongeBob Musical.”

“We’re thrilled to offer a season that offers our patrons an eclectic mix of productions that cater to a wide range of tastes and interests by offering classics, comedy, holiday cheer, and fun for the whole family,” said Sam Kincaid, project coordinator for the Department of Theatre and Dance. “Please join us.”

“A Doll’s House” was groundbreaking in 1879 when written by the Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen. It tells of a housewife daring to pursue her own views amidst the time of women’s suffrage and fight for equality. It will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 16-19 in the Francis-Booth Experimental Theatre in the Joan C. Edwards Performing Arts Center.

“Every Christmas Story Ever Told (And Then Some!), by Michael Carleton, James FitzGerald, and John K. Alvarez is a comedic mash-up of favorite Christmas stories, featuring familiar cameos from the Grinch, Rudolph, Frosty, Charles Dickens and more. It will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 4-7, also in the Francis-Booth Experimental Theatre.

This fall, there also will be a Fall Dance Concert on Oct. 5, and a performance of “Radium Girls” by the group Theatre ETC! on Nov. 24, with the times yet to be determined.

The spring semester brings “Sylvia” — a comedy about a husband who brings a stray dog home from the park — to the stage at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 19-22 in the Francis-Booth Experimental Theatre. Written by A.R. Gurney, “Sylvia” is an on-stage romp with a human actor portraying the main character, in a story that is both hysterical and touch.

“ ‘Sylvia’ is something that any pet owner will want to see,” Kincaid said. “‘SpongeBob’ will be a family show and a circus atmosphere.”

Nickelodeon’s “The SpongeBob Musical” will be at 7:30 p.m. April 23-26, with a matinee planned for 2 p.m. April 26.

Also planned for the spring are the Spring Dance Concert, to be performed at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 28-March 1.

Collaborative partners for this year’s theatre season include Alchemy Theatre Troup, The Marshall Artists Series, The School of Music, and the School of Art & Design, from which students designed posters for the show.

“Patrons who wish to learn more about our productions are invited to the Oct. 19, Dec. 4, Feb. 19 and April 23 performances which will include post-show discussions with the director, actors, crew, and special guests,” Kincaid said.

All are welcome to Marshall University theatre productions. Season tickets are available at the Joan C. Edwards Performing Arts Center Box Office, or by calling 304-696-2787. Tickets can be purchased between 1-4 p.m. weekdays or one hour prior to each show.
