Dipert is an associate professor of philosophy at the (SUNY) University at Buffalo and a founding member of the National Center for Ontological Research. Previously, Dipert taught at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, and his most active current interests are military ethics and the philosophy of war and peace.
The lecture comes during National Cybersecurity Awareness Month, which is designed to engage and educate the public and private sector about national cybersecurity initiatives.
Jon Cutler, Chief Information Security Officer at Marshall, said that cyberwarfare is a growing global consideration.
“My philosophy is that technology is a force multiplier,” Cutler said. “Just as we used mechanical tools years ago, technology is just another progression of the arms race. It not surprising for people to take advantage of that.”
Cutler also noted the increasing potential for our country’s cyberinfrastructure to be used against us.
“There is also the sentiment that it may not be the bad guys across the ocean, but also homegrown terrorists. Most of the infrastructure we have now is being managed and operated electronically. If we don’t pay attention, those systems could be turned against us,” Cutler said.
