In its constant effort to inspire the next generation of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math professionals, the Society of American Military Engineers (S.A.M.E.) Huntington Post is sponsoring the annual Engineering Career Day for local high school and college students Thursday, Feb. 25, on Marshall University’s Huntington campus.

Engineering Career Day at Marshall occurs during National Engineers Week each year and invites approximately 140 high school sophomores from 16 area high schools to attend the by-invitation-only event at Marshall. The event includes an opening ceremony, workshops, engineering exhibits, a luncheon and scholarship presentations.

The luncheon speakers this year include April Vance, a project manager for Stantec in Louisville, Kentucky; Dr. Greg Michaelson, a structural engineer and assistant professor in the Arthur Weisberg Division of Engineering at Marshall University; Taylor Lipscomb, a recent Marshall University engineering graduate; and John Stephens, a current engineering senior at Marshall University. The S.A.M.E. Huntington Post will award five scholarships to high school and college students during the luncheon.

Students from Marshall University’s Society of American Military Engineers-American Society of Civil Engineers (SAME-ASCE) student organization will be assisting with various portions of the event including check-in, exhibits and demonstrations.

For additional information, please contact April Vance, Director of S.A.M.E. Huntington Post, at 502-292-4736 or April.Vance@stantec.com.
