Faculty to perform recital Sept. 11

Marshall University’s School of Music will present faculty members Dr. Michael Stroeher and Dr. Johan Botes performing the sonatas of Alec Wilder on Sunday, Sept. 11.

Works to be performed at 3 p.m. in Smith Recital Hall on Marshall’s Huntington campus will include the Sonatas for trombone, bass trombone and euphonium. The concert is free and open to the public.

Wilder was a unique figure in American music, blending classical European musical forms with jazz harmonies and melodies. He was an accomplished songwriter, with works recorded by Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett and Peggy Lee, among others.
