At approximately 9 a.m. today a Marshall University student crossing Fifth Avenue near Harless Dining Hall was struck by a vehicle. The student was transported to a local hospital with unknown injuries.

President Jerome A. Gilbert said the university community is shaken by the incident and deeply concerned.

“This is a close-knit community and events such as this impact our entire Marshall family,” he said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with both the injured student and the driver.”

He added that the Office of Student Affairs will be providing assistance and support to the student’s family and had a counselor at the scene this morning.

The university will not be releasing any further information at this time due to federal student privacy laws.

Media inquiries about the incident should be directed to the Huntington Police Department, the investigating agency.
