Meet Michael!

Michael Mercer is a Student worker at Marshall University, he is a Senior majoring in Senior in Cybersecurity and Forensics. Michael joined the Marshall Online Team as a Graduate Assistant in January of 2024. Michael assists the Design Center Team with a variety of projects and tasks. Michael strives for people to know that he is I’m a great person to hang out with and an opportunistic person.

How long have you worked with Marshall Online?

4 months.

What is your favorite part of working with the Marshall Online Team? 

My favorite part of working with this team is that the people that surround me on this team are extremely nice to get along with and are extremely helpful when it comes to working together with them.

How have you grown professionally while on our team? 

What has made me grown professionally while on this team is that it is teaching me better ways how to communicate with co workers and getting to know them better.

What might surprise us about you? 

I’m on the autism spectrum and I am an extremely flexible person when it comes to changes and will get tasks done sooner than expected when given the opportunity to.

What is your favorite part about Marshall University? 

My favorite part about Marshall is that there are so many opportunities to do in this place besides college work. It is a very diverse place to be, and you can meet so many people with so many different backgrounds as well.

What are your future plans for after you leave Marshall? If no plans yet, what would be your dream plan?

My future plans when I am done with Marshall is to work for a cybersecurity or IT job in the big tech field such as Amazon, Microsoft, or even Apple.

What did you want to be when you were growing up?

I’m still deciding on what I want to do when I’m done with college.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

Playing video games, watching sports, and walking my dog.

What advice would you give your younger self?

Don’t overreact, don’t overthink, don’t show your emotions, and be calm on when you make choices.
