Research Protections

At Marshall University, we are committed to upholding the highest standards of research integrity and ensuring compliance with all applicable ethical and legal standards. To provide clarity and streamline processes, we have outlined the roles of the Office of Research Integrity (ORI) and the Marshall University Research Corporation (MURC) in supporting other research integrity/protection issues.

Office of Research Integrity (ORI)

ORI oversees compliance related to:

  • Institutional Review Board (IRB): Ensuring the protection of human subjects involved in research.
  • Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC): Monitoring the ethical treatment of animals in research.

The ORI is your go-to resource for protocols, training, and guidance on the ethical conduct of research involving human or animal subjects.

Visit the ORI website for more information on IRB and IACUC processes, requirements, and resources.

Marshall University Research Corporation (MURC)

MURC supports research integrity and protection beyond IRB and IACUC by addressing issues such as:

  • Conflict of Interest
  • Export Controls
  • Biosafety
  • Data Management
  • Research Security
  • Intellectual Property

MURC works collaboratively with researchers to ensure adherence to federal, state, and institutional standards.

Explore the MURC website to learn more about how we assist in maintaining research integrity and fostering an ethical research environment.
