Update message from the President-elect and the Provost Search Committee Chair

Dear Marshall University community,

This message is an update on the progress made to-date in the search for the university’s next provost.

Since convening in late November, the 20-member Provost Search Committee has been hard at work. Committee members, who represent every academic college and all university constituencies, have participated in two listening sessions with representatives from Faculty Senate and the Dean’s Council.

These early listening sessions were used to inform the search profile released late last week, signaling the start of active recruitment for the position. The campus community will have additional opportunities to share what they seek in the next provost at listening sessions with the search committee after the first of the year. We will share the dates and times for these sessions as they are finalized in early January.

The search is being conducted with support from consultants Dr. Ann Die Hasselmo and Dr. Chris Butler of Academic Search, who have told us the Marshall position will attract a talented, experienced and diverse pool of both national and international leaders in higher education.

We have the utmost confidence the search committee will ensure a thorough and impartial process, and look forward to them ultimately bringing the top finalists to campus for on-site interviews.

The campus community will have the opportunity to participate in the process at every stage and is encouraged to nominate candidates or provide feedback via the form on the Provost Search website or by e-mail to MarshallProvost@academicsearch.org.

Thank you to the members of the committee for their dedication to Marshall University, to shared governance and to the search. We also appreciate each of you for your support of us and of this process.

Peace and good wishes to you and your family during this holiday season.

Sincerely,

Brad D. Smith
President-Elect
