Michael Raymond Prestera was born in 1909 born in McKean County, Pennsylvania and his primary and secondary education were from Catholic schools in Bradford, Pennsylvania. He attended Niagara University and held degrees from the University of Pennsylvania and The University of Alabama in pharmacy, chemistry, personnel management. He moved his family to West Virginia after purchasing a business in Huntington. He was a successful businessman (the president of Whitten Transfer Company and the Prestera Trucking Company), served as chairman of the KYOVA Interstate Planning Commission, and was also a former president of the Big Green athletic boosters group. At the time of his death he was a delegate-elect to the West Virginia Legislature. His daughter, Gene Michele Prestera and his son, Michael R. Prestera, Jr., were graduates of the Marshall Lab School. He left a wife, Nancy; a daughter, Mary Anne; and three sons, Gene, Michael, and Robert.
