Marshall University is committed to supporting all students on their educational journey. Whether you’re conditionally admitted, test-optional, or on academic probation, there are resources available to help you thrive academically and achieve your goals!
Marshall University offers admission to a limited number of students who do not meet the regular freshman admission requirements. These students are admitted conditionally to University College and must complete all requirements within three semesters.
It’s essential for these students to seek academic advising and utilize campus resources to succeed during their conditional admission period.
Conditionally admitted student requirements include:
- Satisfactory completion of UNI 100 Freshman First Class, a graded transitional course taught by the student’s academic counselor.
- Successful completion of a required co-requisite English. (This requirement will vary for each student based on ACT, SAT or other placement scores)
- Completion of 18 graded hours with a 2.00 GPA (cumulative and MU) or 15 graded hours with a 3.00 or better GPA (cumulative and MU) during the first semester as a conditionally admitted student.
Marshall University recognizes that standardized test scores (such as SAT or ACT) do not always fully reflect a student’s potential. As a result, applicants who qualify for admission without test scores are offered general, conditional admission to the university.
This policy allows students to focus on other aspects of their application, such as their high school coursework, extracurricular activities, and personal achievements.
Student admitted without test scores may be required to complete course placement exams or complete additional requirements.
