October: Domestic Violence Awareness Month
Below is a list of upcoming events for Domestic Violence Awareness Month 2024.
The Purple Lights Campaign is a powerful initiative to raise awareness for Domestic Violence Awareness Month by illuminating the campus in purple lights. Throughout the month, buildings and walkways will be bathed in purple, symbolizing solidarity with survivors and honoring those affected by domestic violence. This visual display serves as a reminder of the importance of prevention, education, and support, encouraging the campus community to unite in breaking the silence and taking action against domestic violence. The lights will be displayed all month long.
Kick-off event! The Domestic Violence Awareness Resource Fair is designed to raise awareness and provide support for individuals affected by domestic violence. Attendees can connect with local organizations, access resources such as counseling, legal aid, and shelter services, and learn how to promote safety, healing, and empowerment. This fair aims to foster a supportive environment for survivors, families, and advocates while encouraging campus involvement in breaking the cycle of abuse.
Where: MSC Lobby
Time: 11 AM to 1:00 PM.
October 7-11 | Red Flag Campaign: The Red Flag Campaign uses a bystander intervention strategy to address and prevent sexual assault, dating violence, and stalking on college campuses. The campaign encourages friends and other campus community members to say something when they see warning signs (“red flags”) for sexual assault, dating violence, or stalking in a friend’s relationship. Students will have an opportunity to share their “red flags” during the resource fair on October 1st. Those flags will be planted on October 7th.
