FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Hutington, W.Va. – Adam Rogers, a student broadcaster from Marshall University’s public radio station, WMUL-FM, received a 2017 National Mark of Excellence Award from the Society of Professional Journalists. He will be presented his award, which was in the Radio Sports Reporting category, at the SPJ Convention and National Journalism Conference Saturday, Sept. 29, in Baltimore.
Rogers, who is from Milton, is a former station manager for WMUL-FM and is now a graduate from Marshall, competed with other broadcasting students from large colleges and universities across the nation, said Dr. Chuck G. Bailey, professor of radio-television production and management in Marshall’s W. Page Pitt School of Journalism and Mass Communications. Rogers’ success is more evidence that “our radio students at WMUL-FM are able to successfully compete at the national level with other student journalists,” Bailey said.
The winning entry in radio sports reporting in the large college/university category was “Tyre Brady’s Record Day,” written and produced by Rogers and broadcast during the “Cutting Edge Sports Radio Network Pregame Program” prior to the Marshall versus Kent State football game, Sept.16, 2017, and also made available online.
The recognition is among several awards that Rogers has won for his work at WMUL-FM during his time at Marshall University.
