HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – A senior sports journalism major from Marshall University’s public radio station, WMUL-FM, received one (1) third-place award in the 2023 College Broadcasters Inc. (CBI) National Student Radio Production Awards Ceremony. The ceremony took place Saturday, October 21, 2023, at the Rosen Plaza Hotel in Orlando, Florida.  CBI received nearly 1,000 entries for the 2023 CBI National Student Radio Production Awards.

Dr. Chuck G. Bailey, professor of Radio-Television Production and Management in the W. Page Pitt School of Journalism and Mass Communications at Marshall and faculty manager of WMUL-FM, said, “The students competed with broadcasting students from colleges and universities throughout the United States.” He added, “This contest, in its twenty-second year, is sponsored by CBI. It is an honor to win even a third-place award granted by this prestigious organization. The WMUL-FM Sports Director Ben Cower’s third-place award is a tribute to his solid production skills. Our radio students at WMUL-FM have established a tradition of being able to compete successfully at the national, regional, and state levels with other student-operated college radio stations. This performance by Ben is further evidence of the quality of the work performed by our talented broadcasting students against stiff competition. I am proud of him and our other broadcasting students who continue to provide quality broadcast performances to Tri-State listeners and to be outstanding representatives for the W. Page Pitt School of Journalism and Mass Communications and Marshall University in competitions against nationally known college and university broadcast programs.”
