On Friday Afternoon, The Marshall Thundering Herd (3-5) and the Jacksonville Dolphins (5-4) met in Huntington at the Cam Henderson Center. The Herd was aiming to rebound from their loss to Florida while Jacksonville looked to continue to build off its 3 game-winning streak

Despite the hot streak the dolphins had to enter the contest, Marshall would hold on until the final horn as it would take the win in a nail-biter 78-76, giving the Herd faithful an early Christmas present as Marshall heads into winter break.

Jacksonville kept it close the entire game, but Marshall had control thanks to a great offensive performance. The Herd went 50% from the field and went 6-14 on three-pointers. This performance was led by Meredith Maier, who had 20 points and 6 triples, which tied her season best. She wasn’t alone as Aislynn Hayes and Madison Kellione would account for 19 and 16, respectively

The game would be back and forth as it went into the 4th quarter. The 4th would get started with a couple of 3-pointers by Maier and Kellione, getting the Herd out to a lead. The Dolphins would keep the game close, but Marshall would not relinquish the lead the entire last frame.

With a pair of clutch free throws, and forcing one of Jacksonville’s 19 turnovers on the last possession, the Herd would hold on to take a 78-76 win and notch its 4th win of the season

Marshall will travel to Cincinnati as it takes on another team in the MAC conference, the Cincinnati Bearcats, on Wednesday, Dec. 18.
