HUNTINGTON, W. Va. (WMUL-FM) — Juli Fulks, Marshall Women’s Basketball head coach, is set to make her Sun Belt Conference debut Sunday when the Thundering Herd welcomes the Texas State Bobcats.
Fulks in her first year at the helm for Marshall after serving the previous ten seasons at NCAA Division III institution, Transylvania University. At Transylvania, Fulks compiled a record of 242-39 including a national championship.
Texas State is led by Zenarae Antoine in her 14th season. Antoine has an overall record of 207-200.
Marshall is 5-6 after defeating NCAA Division II Davis & Elkins on Dec. 20, 2024. Texas State is 6-4 after falling 54-70 against Texas San Antonio on Saturday.
The contest marks the Sun Belt Conference opener for both teams.
Marshall won the regular season and postseason Sun Belt Conference championship last season, finishing 17-1 in league play. Texas State finished 13th last season at 4-14.
The game marks the third meeting between the two programs with the series tied 1-1. Marshall won last season 85-59 in San Marcos, Texas.
Offensively, Marshall ranks third in the Sun Belt Conference averaging 72 points per game. Texas State ranks tenth in the Sun Belt Conference averaging 66 points per game.
The matchup pits Marshall’s high 3-point shooting offense which averages 11 3-pointers per game, against Texas State’s inside offensive attack which has outscored opponents 358-290 in points in the paint.
Marshall is powered by Sun Belt Conference leading scorer, senior Aislynn Hayes averaging 17 points per game. Texas State is captained by senior Jaylin Foster, leading the team in scoring at 10 points per game, and rebounds at 5 rebounds per game.
Texas State has found success on the road this season compiling a 4-1 record.
