The Thundering Herd’s last time on the court came with an impressive double-digit victory against the Appalachian State Mountaineers on Saturday afternoon, with junior guard Dezayne Mingo tallying 25 points off 3/6 shooting from behind the arc. Marshall currently sits tied for fifth in the Sun Belt Conference with a 10-6 SBC record coming into the Tuesday night matchup, with three teams tied for second at 11-5, and James Madison University all alone atop the leaderboard at 12-4.

Old Dominion sits tenth in the Sun Belt Conference with a 7-9 conference record. It is led by the guard dynamic duo of redshirt senior Sean Durugordon and freshman Robert Davis Jr., averaging 15.5 and 15.4 points per game, respectively.

This matchup will come only five days succeeding the last time these two squads hit the hardwood against each other, where the Herd pulled out a four-point win after outscoring Old Dominion by 15 in the first half. Marshall led by as much as 18 with only seven minutes left, but the Monarchs were able to get the game within three, 77-74, with 40 seconds remaining. Mikal Dawson and Jalen Speer both went 2/2 from the charity stripe with less than 20 seconds left to solidify a Thundering Herd victory. Marshall senior Obinna Anochilli-Killen led all scorers with 24.
