HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WMUL-FM) — After scoring three first inning runs during a 5-4 game one victory, Marshall baseball aims for a series victory against the Fairleigh Dickinson Knights in a Saturday matchup at Jack Cook Field.
In the past week, the Herd have won three of its past four games, improving to a 3-6 overall record. Meanwhile, FDU has yet to win a game in the opening month, beginning the 2025 season with an 0-8 record while losing three games by two or fewer runs.
Cleaning up after starter Bryce Blevins’ four earned runs through 5.2 IP, senior reliever Nicholas Weyrich tossed 3.1 shutout innings and allowed one hit in his appearance, lowering his ERA to a team-best 1.74. His appearance during Friday’s series opener makes for the right-hander’s third consecutive without letting up an earned run.
After a fourth inning RBI double by junior center fielder Cam Harthan gave the Herd a one run lead, the home side scattered just three hits across the next four frames. The Thundering Herd’s leadoff man tied for the team lead in hits with two, equaling the totals of catcher Nolan Wilson and third baseman Eddie Leon.
The Knights enter game two with a team ERA of 7.92, allowing a total of eight runs in the opening third of its past three games. Around the diamond, the visiting side ranks third in the Northeast Conference with a fielding percentage of .952.
