Marshall Softball Preview

HUNTINGTON, W. Va. (WMUL-FM) — This weekend, Marshall softball begins its first home slate at Dot Hicks Field for the 2025 season with Marshall March Madness.
The Herd plays six games in three days, with Loyola Chicago on Friday and Sunday, Buffalo on Friday and Saturday, and Valparaiso on Saturday and Sunday.
The Herd dropped four of its five games in Norman, Okla. at the Norman Tournament last weekend. Marshall lost two games to both the Kansas Jayhawks and Oklahoma Sooners, but managed to defeat the Missouri-Kansas City Roos.
Marshall enters with a record of 6-11, being 215-103-2 at Dot Hicks Field in its current location on 3rd Avenue.
The Loyola Chicago Ramblers are 3-15 and led by senior infielder Bella Crimaldi who has a .354 batting average with 17 hits and five RBIs.
The Buffalo Bulls are 2-12 and led by freshman Emily Gorman who has a .429 batting average with a home run and eight RBIs.
The Valparaiso Beacons are 7- 6 and have a trio of pitchers with ERA’s 3.30 or lower. Leading the team is sophomore Sydney McDermott with 33.2 IP, and a 2.50 ERA.
Action begins on Friday with a double-header against the Loyola Chicago Ramblers at 4 p.m. and the Buffalo Bulls at 6:30 p.m. The Buffalo game will be broadcast online on Stream 2. www.marshall.edu/wmul. FM88 Sports’ Sean Kelly will have the call.
Saturday’s double-header begins with the Valparaiso Beacons at 4 p.m. and the Buffalo Bulls at 6:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast on WMUL-FM 88.1 as FM88 Sports’ Ben Anderson will have the call with pregame coverage at 3:45 p.m.
Both games in Sunday’s double-header will be broadcast on WMUL-FM 88.1. The first will be against Loyola Chicago with pregame coverage at 1:15 p.m. and first pitch at 1:30 p.m. FM88 Sports’ Ethan Peltier will have the call. The tournament concludes with Valparaiso with pregame coverage at 3:45 p.m. and first pitch at 4 p.m., where FM88 Sports’ Ben Anderson will have the call. .
