HUNTINGTON, W. Va. (WMUL-FM) — Riding a five-game winning streak, Marshall baseball enters this afternoon’s contest on a hot streak as it faces off against the Bradley Braves at 5 p.m. from Jack Cook Field.
Currently owning a 6-6 record, the Herd earned its first five-game winning streak since 2022 following Tuesday’s 12-inning walk-off victory over the Ohio Bobcats. The Braves enter this afternoon’s battle with a 2-7 record, most recently dropping its fourth straight game with a 9-3 loss to the Dayton Flyers on Sunday.
The Braves stand as the third best team in the Missouri Valley Conference from the batter’s box, hitting .259 as a team, while becoming one of the top five teams in the conference in hit-by-pitches, with 17. However, on the mound, the Braves have racked up the highest ERA in the Missouri Valley Conference at 9.72. This afternoon’s projected starter for Bradley is right-hander Travis Lutz, who owns a 1-1 record and 8.39 ERA in three appearances.
The Herd has had its own struggles on the pitching side, owning a 5.75 ERA while allowing the highest number of walks in the Sun Belt Conference at 70. However, its strength has consistently been in its relievers. In the home side’s previous contest, senior righty Nicholas Weyrich earned the victory with an ERA of 1.35, while sophomore Charlie Krebs tossed two innings of shutout ball and allowed just his second hit of the season.
