HUNTINGTON, W. Va. (WMUL-FM) — Marshall baseball (20-22, 6-12) aims to keep momentum from the midweek sweep against Morehead State as it hosts the South Alabama Jaguars (17-21, 7-11).

The Thundering Herd beat the Morehead State Eagles 10-0 and 32-15, and was absolutely explosive at the plate. Marshall broke the school record for most hits in a game as it tallied 33 in game two, breaking the previous record of 30 that was set in 1990. The Jaguars are coming off a series win as they took two of three games against the Texas State Bobcats at home.

The Herd will be going up against a Jaguars team that can be dangerous on both sides of the ball. South Alabama has the fourth best batting average in the Sun Belt Conference as the Jags are batting .285 as a team. Both teams are strong on the pitching side, as Marshall is fourth and South Alabama is sixth in the Sun Belt.

This weekend is going to be crucial to both teams. A series win is necessary for both teams to move up the standings and inch closer to qualifying for the Sun Belt Tournament, as only the top 10 out of the 14 teams in the conference make the conference tournament.

Leading the way for Marshall is third baseman Eddie Leon, with a .289 average, .825 OPS, 43 hits, 22 RBIs and a .470 Slugging percentage. He has been one of the most consistent hitters for Marshall and looks to continue that.

South Alabama is led by Kyle Morrison, who is 19th in the conference with a .327 batting average, 12th in home runs with nine and ninth in RBIs with 40.

Marshall comes into the series 13th in the Sunbelt, and South Alabama comes in at 11th

Marshall looks to keep its strong home record as it enters the contest being 14-7 at Jack Cook Field this season.
