Makaylah Wheeler

Station Manager

Hometown: Huntington, WV
Education: Undergraduate: B.A. Broadcast Journalism, Graduate: Current Graduate Assistant in Communications Studies

Career Goals: I really want to be a Station Manager and freelance. I don’t care what order those happen in, but I know I want to settle down and become a Professor once I have kids.

Biography

I’m the longest serving student member on the board, I’ve loved the station so much that I haven’t been able to leave (Mike Stanley and Dr. Bailey are the same) I’m a busy bee and keep my hand in a lot of projects beyond the station, so it’s seldom I have free time. Everyone knows the only real way to get ahold of me is if it’s a work related text/Teams message/email, work life balance just doesn’t exist to me. I take a lot of pride in being able to watch people grow at this station and in my classrooms because I get to watch them discover the potential I always knew they had.

The station is the singular best choice I’ve made in my life and it has directly influenced ever other positive event in my life in the past 7 years. People don’t realize how much this station can be for them and what it means for the personal and professional growth. The College of Arts and Media, Marshall University as a whole would be at a loss without this place because of all we quietly do. I’m still waiting on people to realize that.

Station Stuff

Programs: I help with most programs to make sure they meet our standards and are edited correctly. My favorite program that I’ve personally created are the Fountain Ceremony pieces, College Radio Day special that aired internationally, and my first series: Huntington Unscripted.

Favorite Station Memory: It’s impossible to pick one in a sea of so much joy. Everyday I have another reason to continue falling in love with this place and these people.
