Huntington, W. Va. — Students from Marshall University’s public radio station, WMUL-FM, received two (2) first place awards and five (5) finalist awards during the 80th Annual Intercollegiate Broadcasting System Conference’s 11th Annual Awards Ceremony at the Hotel Pennsylvania in New York, New York, Saturday, March 7, 2020.
Dr. Chuck G. Bailey, professor of Radio-Television Production and Management in the W. Page Pitt School of Journalism and Mass Communications at Marshall University and faculty manager of WMUL-FM, said that the students competed with other broadcasting students from more than eighty colleges and universities throughout the United States.
“WMUL-FM’s student broadcasters fared well in the seven categories entered out of the fifty-nine IBS news, sports, production/on-air, promotional, web/social media, station printed materials and best radio stations categories available. With WMUL-FM being declared as having the best news promotion and women’s basketball play-by-play plus WMUL-FM being a finalist for College Radio Station of the Year speaks well for Marshall University, the College of Arts and Media, and the W. Page Pitt School of Journalism and Mass Communications,” said Bailey.

“Newscenter 88 Promo” an in-house promotional announcement broadcast in WMUL-FM’s Promotion Announcement rotation Friday, October 18, 2019, and is still in rotation was written by Zane Bowles, a junior from Sandstone, West Virginia and produced by Haley Brown, a freshman from Weirton, West Virginia.
