The Marshall Thundering Herd Volleyball team made the drive up to Ypsilanti, Michigan for a three-game tournament at Eastern Michigan University. The Herd came in with a 3-1 record and faced the Oakland University Golden Grizzlies who posted a 1-3 record before the contest.

The Golden Grizzles struck first, winning the first set of the match by a score of 25-22. Oakland was led in kills on the day by the duo of Libby Smith and Tyler Linkhart with 11 apiece, and led in assists by Rachell Rossman, who had an impressive 32.

After dropping the first set, there was nothing to stop the Herd from that point on. Marshall won the next three sets by a combined score of 78-61, but they had to earn every part of this victory.

The third set was a crucial turning point in the game as the final score was a thrilling 28-26.  The set reached both teams tied at 23, and there were three lead changes and three ties after that before the Herd could finally pull away.

Marshall was led in kills, assists, and blocks by senior Brynn Brown, who was able to accumulate 20 kills, 21 assists, and 4 blocks for the Thundering Herd. Other notable statistics include sophomore Peyton Neal with an impressive 26 digs, freshman Audrey Geer leading the Herd with four service aces, and redshirt freshman Maya Hunt, who was just one assist behind her teammate Brown with 20.

The Marshall Volleyball team looks to continue winning at the Eastern Michigan Tournament with two games on Saturday. The first being against George Washington University at 11 a.m., and the second being versus the hosting Eastern Michigan Eagles at 3 p.m.
