HUNTINGTON, W. Va. (WMUL-FM) — Marshall women’s basketball aims to rebound from a loss Cincinnati and secure one final non-conference victory on Saturday, when it faces the Davis & Elkins Senators.
Marshall welcomes a second NCAA Division II opponent this season. Davis & Elkins will face its first NCAA Division I opponent in what is an exhibition game for the Senators but will be a regular season contest that counts to its overall record for Marshall.
Marshall is 4-6 after falling 64-67 against the Cincinnati Bearcats on Wednesday. Davis & Elkins (1-9) is coming off its first win of the season against Point Park on Saturday.
The Thundering Herd now in its third season in the Sun Belt Conference, is led by first-year head coach Juli Fulks. Davis & Elkins competes in the Mountain East Conference at the NCAA Division II level and is led by third-year head coach Donna Carr.
Offensively, Marshall ranks third in the Sun Belt Conference averaging 72 points per game. Davis & Elkins ranks last in the Mountain East Conference with 56 points per game.
Senior guard Aislynn Hayes who leads the Sun Belt Conference in scoring with 18 points per game for Marshall. Freshman guard Jahniya Marion paces the Senators with 8 points and averages 26 minutes per game.
This will be the fifth overall meeting between the two programs, with Marshall winning all four previous matchups, including a 104-43 victory on Dec. 4, 2022.
Marshall holds a 67-18 record against all-time Mountain East Conference members. The game marks the Thundering Herd’s final contest before the Christmas Holiday.
Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Cam Henderson Center, with live coverage on WMUL-FM 88.1 and online at marshall.edu/WMUL. Pregame coverage begins at 12:30 p.m.
