HUNTINGTON, W. Va. (WMUL-FM) — Marshall men’s basketball continues its homestand Saturday against the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers and aims to re-kindle its hot streak after losing to Georgia State Thursday.
In its last game, the Thundering Herd returned home after a lengthy, yet successful road-trip, going 3-1 during that stretch. Marshall started its mid-season homestand off with a go against the Georgia State Panthers.
Marshall dropped Thursday’s game against Georgia State after a furious comeback was cut short. Towards the middle of the second half, the Thundering Herd found itself down by 20 points, trailing the Panthers 68-48 with 13:28 to play. Marshall chipped away at the hefty deficit and brought the score back to within two with less than 20 seconds to play. The Thundering Herds comeback was cut short after Toneari Lane sealed the envelope by netting two free throws and pulling the Panthers away in the final seconds.
Prior to the loss, Marshall was on a three-game winning streak.
The Chanticleers have struggled as of late, having dropped their last seven games in a row. Coastal’s last win came on Jan. 4 when it defeated the University of Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks 70-51 at home. The Chants last played Thursday in Harrisonburg, Virginia against James Madison.
