HUNTINGTON, W. Va. (WMUL-FM) — After a thrilling overtime victory Wednesday night, the challenges for Marshall women’s basketball only increase tomorrow as it battles a top five team in the Sun Belt in the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers inside the Cam Henderson Center.

With Wednesday’s victory against the Old Dominion Monarchs, Marshall improved to an overall record of 8-17 and 3-10 in the Sun Belt. Senior guard Aislynn Hayes led the charge for the Herd offense, earning a new career-high in points with 29 while racking up five boards.

In the most recent matchup between these two sides, Coastal Carolina lived up to its ranking as the second-best scoring offense in the Sun Belt Conference, never shooting below 40% in a quarter. Though the Herd currently ranks as a top five shooting team in the conference, the visitors shot a frigid 14% in the second and 25% from the field in the third on the way to a 76-64 loss. Defensively, the Herd gave up 26 points from turnovers during the loss.

Since last defeating the Thundering Herd on Jan. 29, the Chants own the second longest winning streak in the Sun Belt Conference. As they enter Huntington on a five-game winning streak, the Chanticleers sit at an overall record of 18-6 and 8-5 in the conference.

Saturday’s contest will be a battle between two of the top five scoring offenses in the Sun Belt, with Marshall ranking fifth overall while averaging 68.24 points per game. Meanwhile, the second-ranked Chants are led individually by junior guard Savannah Brooks, who averages 15 points per game.

You can tune in to the contest on WMUL-FM 88.1 and online at www.marshall.edu/WMUL. FM88 Sports’ Sean Kelly and Ben Anderson will have the call with pregame coverage beginning at 12:30 p.m. and tip-off slated for 1 p.m.
