HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WMUL-FM) — Marshall University’s recent February break proved to be a challenge and an advantage in student’s studies and personal lives.

The break gave students Thursday Feb. 13 and Friday Feb. 14 off, with classes resuming on Monday Feb. 17.

Alexis McFarland, a Marshall University student majoring in psychology, said she used the time off to spend with family and friends.

Another student, Nevaeh Bright, used the time to work on homework and do self-care. “Over my break, I plan on getting some assignments done and staying ahead in the semester, but also trying to do something that will help me reset,” Bright said.

Bright, an entrepreneurship major, believes the break was useful for her as the halfway point of the semester slowly approaches. “The break will help my studies because it gives me time to study and prepare any questions I may have for my professor if need be or to just stay ahead,” she said.

However, for some students, it can be challenging to complete assignments during the extra time off. “I think it will hinder my work because I get more homework done when I am in the dorms,” McFarland said.

Bright also said that the February break is “beneficial”, when used right. “We are almost to the midway point in the semester, so it can help you if you use the time well,” she said.

With midterm grades due on Feb. 24, it is crucial for students to be on top of their assignments.
