HUNTINGTON, W. Va. (WMUL-FM) — The Herd hit the diamond at Jack Cook Field on Saturday in its second game against Fairleigh Dickinson University. The Herd (3-6) and FDU (0-8) met for the second time in two days after a close 5-4 victory for the Herd in game one.
Marshall trailed for four innings before rattling off 12 runs, six of which came in the fifth inning. Center Fielder Cam Harthan led the Herd with three of its runs, while Eddie Leon and Elijah Vogelsong both made their way to home plate twice.
Harthan connected with the ball once for a run while getting walked three times. Meanwhile, AJ Havrilla made contact twice for one run. Tyler Kamerer was a force too, batting in four runs, including a triple to center field for three.
The Herd was given five perfect innings from its bullpen, including three from Charlie Krebs, who gave up zero hits and runs. Blaine Albright gave up just one hit and zero runs, giving both a perfect ERA on the day.
Head coach Greg Beals was interviewed by the media post-game. When asked about the importance of effort, he had this to say, “You know that’s really nothing special, you know you play the game hard until the ball’s caught and secured.”
A great overall showing for the Herd as it got the job done for the second straight day. Marshall will look for the sweep when it takes on FDU again on Sunday in the third and final game of the series.
Marshall will see a quick turnaround after this series when it hosts old rival Ohio University in a one-off game on Tuesday.
