About the College of Arts and Media

With vibrant programs, the College of Arts and Media offers professional, discipline-based training within a broad learning context in four schools: the School of Art and Design, the W. Page Pitt School of Journalism and Mass Communications, the School of Music and the School of Theatre. Major in art education, or music education through the College of Education and Professional Development. We also offer minors in advertising, art, dance, journalism, music, public relations or theatre.

An interdisciplinary program in video production with two options is now available to interested students.  You can pursue a Bachelor of Arts in the Arts with a Video Production major, or you can pursue the Bachelor of the Arts in Journalism with a video production emphasis within the Media Studies major.  Both programs draw course work from the arts and mass communications to complete the major.

Our students create featured art for one of our galleries and write for The Parthenon, Marshall’s student newspaper since 1887. They go on air with WMUL-FM, West Virginia’s first non-commercial, educational radio station, and then anchor with MU Report, the School of Journalism and Mass Communication’s broadcast media group. They perform with one of our many vocal, instrumental or world music ensembles in Smith Recital Hall and explore the world of theatre in impressive Joan C. Edwards Playhouse. Students create cutting edge electronic media productions with current technology in state-of-the-art facilities.  Above all, they study alongside exceptional faculty members and mentors who are renowned in their fields.

Also a part of CAM, the Marshall Artists Series presents world-class artists and organizations through special events and festivals.

In the College of Arts and Media, you will be able to place an emphasis on your particular area of interest while learning in a broad context. As communication continues to evolve, let the College of Arts and Media prepare you to live as a 21st-century global citizen and leader.
